Student Checking FAQs



You must be 18 years old if you wish you open a Student Checking Account  account with no other cosigner or owner. If, however, your parent or guardian will sign with you, you are able to open this account at any age. You will not be able to receive a debit card unless you are 14 or older. 
You qualify for a Student Checking Account until you are 23 years old as long as you are enrolled in school, high school, college, university, or a vocational program. Once you turn 23, your Academy Bank account will be converted to the Simply Free Checking Account. 
Yes, you must be actively enrolled full-time in high school, college, university, or a vocational program. 
Yes. We have a Student Savings Account and encourage students to look into our Credit Builder Savings Credit Card.   The Student Savings Account is specifically designed for students under the age of 23. There is no minimum balance required to open the account and no monthly service charge. The Credit Builder credit card is a secured credit card designed to assist people in building or raising their credit score. It has a secured balance and a low threshold so it is perfect for students who need to build credit while learning how to use a credit card responsibly. You must be at least 18 years old to apply for the Credit Builder Savings Account.(Subject to credit approval. Credit Builder Savings account required.)
