Digital Wallet FAQs

A digital wallet, also known as a mobile wallet, allows you to securely store your debit card on a smartphone, smartwatch, or other supported device. Once added, you can make purchases using your device instead of your physical card.
Yes. Digital wallets are designed with strong security features, including device authentication, encryption, and tokenization. Your actual card number is never shared with the merchant — instead, a unique digital code is used for each transaction. These features help protect your payment information while making transactions more convenient.
Academy Bank clients can add eligible debit cards directly to supported wallets such as Apple Wallet and Google Wallet through Debit Card Controls. Additional digital wallets may be available through the wallet provider.

Tap to Pay allows you to make purchases by holding your phone, smartwatch, or contactless card near a payment terminal instead of inserting or swiping a card.

There are two ways to add your card to your digital wallet. Access Debit Card Controls within the Academy Bank Mobile Banking app. Go to Card Management then Wallet Integrations to push your card into your digital wallet. The other option is to add your card manually by opening the digital wallet app within Apple Pay®, Google Pay™, Samsung Wallet®, etc., and select Add a Card, and follow the prompts. You’ll enter your debit card details, and in some cases, you may need to verify the card with a code sent by text, email, or phone.
Not every merchant accepts digital wallet payments yet, although many do. It is always a good idea to carry another payment option when needed. You can use it anywhere you see the contactless payment symbol or the wallet logo (Apple Pay®, Google Pay™, Samsung Wallet®). Many online and in-app purchases also accept digital wallet payments.

Yes. In addition to making purchases in stores, many merchants allow clients to use Apple Wallet or Google Wallet for online and in-app purchases. This can provide a faster checkout experience without having to enter card information each time.

Because digital wallets require biometric authentication or a device passcode to authorize purchases, unauthorized users generally cannot access the wallet without unlocking the device. Your card information is not stored directly on your phone. If your phone is lost, you can lock your debit card or remove it through Online Banking to keep your information safe.

If your wallet is stored on a device that loses power, you may not be able to access it until the device is charged again. For this reason, carrying a physical card as a backup may be helpful.

You may need to add your debit card to the digital wallet on your new device. The process may vary depending on your device and digital wallet provider.

Many digital wallet providers automatically update card information when a new or replacement card is issued. However, you should always verify that your new card appears correctly in your digital wallet and follow any prompts from your wallet provider. If the new or replacement card does not update automatically, the existing card may need to be removed and the new card added before it can be used for digital wallet transactions.

Academy Bank does not charge a fee for using a digital wallet. Standard data fees from your mobile carrier may apply.

Digital wallet transactions are subject to the same daily transaction limits that apply to your physical debit card.

Transactions generally appear in your account history like other debit card purchases, although merchant descriptions may vary depending on how the transaction is processed.
